Frequently Asked Questions

What is BC's WILD system?

WILD (Wildlife Licensing and Digital) is British Columbia's new digital licensing platform that replaced the legacy system on April 1, 2026. It provides a modern online portal for purchasing fishing, hunting, and trapping licences. The system ties to a free Fish and Wildlife ID (FWID) that registers you as an angler in BC.

Do I need a BC Services Card to use WILD?

BC residents can use their BC Services Card for a streamlined login via the BC Services Card app, but it's not the only option. You can also register with a basic email and government-issued photo ID. Non-residents don't need a BC Services Card β€” they register directly through the WILD portal. See our BC fishing licence page for all details.

Do I still need to carry a physical licence in BC?

From April 1, 2026, you no longer need to carry a physical basic angling licence for freshwater fishing β€” having your FWID and a valid photo ID is sufficient. However, if you hold specialty stamps (salmon conservation surcharge, classified waters, etc.), you still need proof of those purchases available either digitally or in print.
